Description

Ever since DCs New 52 revealed the Secrets of the Indigo Tribe I have been itching to do a custom. But finding the correct base figure for an Indigo Lantern wasn't easy. They don't wear the typical uniform like the Green Lantern Corps so I had to think outside the box. After seeing Indigo-1, Munk, and the various alien species shown in recent issues I decided that any alien would do and less clothes was best. After searching long and hard I found the perfect base figure. But before I go into details on the work that was done let's get to the good part.

Abin Sur and Natromo are considered the founders of the Indigo Tribe after deciding to harness the Indigo Light of Compassion and create the Indigo Lantern Power Ring. Each wearer of an Indigo Lantern Power ring feels great remorse or regret over their past actions. Abin Sur traveled through his sector and surrounding sectors in search of criminals to be fitted with Power Rings on Nok where they would become members of the Indigo Tribe.

During Abin Sur's hunt across the cosmos he came upon a warrior race known as the Eldor. The Eldor resemble earth's modern day elephant, only they walk and think like men. One distinct difference would be the Eldor have four tusks. The Eldor never developed beyond anything other than nomadic tribes, therefore falling under the radar of the Guardians of the Universe and their Green Lantern Corps.

But Abin Sur soon learned that while nomadic the Eldor tribes were fierce hunters. Employing warfare for the purposes of settling rivalries, acquiring critical resources and gaining control of trade routes. In fact warfare was important to the Eldor religion, because raids on neighboring tribes provided slaves for the construction of cities.

While observing the culture of the Eldor people Abin Sur learned the ruler of an Eldor city was considered the supreme warrior. And that eventually led him to a ruler known as Batu.

While most rulers typically took command and dictated military activity, Batu was known for participating in every battle his tribe had undertook.

Abin Sur chose Batu as his newest candidate for membership into the Indigo Tribe. Using his Green Lantern Power Ring he was easily able to subdue Batu and return to Nok. There he placed the Power Ring on his finger transforming him from a harsh nomadic ruler into a repentant one who regretted his past actions as well as showed remorse over them. Typical members of the Indigo Tribe stayed on Nok to eventually combat the Blackest Night. Batu chose instead to return to his home world and bathe his people in the Indigo Light of Compassion. He did not participate in the Blackest Night but with the growing deceit by the Guardians of the Universe Batu may have to help his tribe preserve the Indigo Light of Compassion.

Base Figure: McFarlane Spawn Series 34 Classics Poacher. If you were to look up the base figure you will see nothing much was really done to change it. The base figure was a perfect fit to be an Indigo Lantern. But that doesn't mean work didn't go into making this guy.
Ring: I sculpted a ring and with a mixture of black and purple I came up with a color that matched Munk's ring. I couldn't make the Indigo symbol so I used Munk's ring to make just a round head like his.
Staff: His staff is from Blackest Night Series 2 Indigo-1. I added a wrap around his staff to make it seem unique and fit his tribal look. Those are two straps from 2 DC Classics Indigo Atom vests.
Chains: Well the chains themselves were already there but I chose to add Indigo medallions to them to again fit the tribal look. Those also came from those 2 DC Classics Indigo Atom vests. I had to paint the backs silver.
Left Shoulder: The original figure had a pair of tusks that were on his shoulder but I felt that they didn't work well for an Indigo Lantern so I removed them. I filled the hole with sculpey, created ridges that matched the detail, then repainted the whole thing roughly the same color.
Jewelry: DC Classics Indigo Atom's vest had two pieces of what appeared to be jewelry on the right side front and back. So by using one vest I got two pieces I was able to repaint and glue to his sash. I would have loved to done them all around him but i'd need way too many Indigo Atoms for that.

Things I wanted to do: I really would have liked to have added the Indigo symbol on his trunk or forehead but my painting skills suck when it comes to detailed work. I also thought he needed more Indigo color in him but I didn't want to take away from the detail the figure already has with a repaint. Plus I look at Indigo Munk and see he has very little Indigo purple in him.

Final Thoughts: I am very happy with the end result but if I get more fodder I may work on him more. I hope fans and fellow customizers like my first Indigo Lantern. I sure do! Please feel free to comment.
